Frequently Asked Questions

What is Return to Aramon?

Return to Aramon is the title of my trilogy of heroic fantasy novels. The first book, Return to Aramon: A New Moon, sits at 162,000 words. It’s in proofing and layout right now and is slated for release in late 2025.

Who are you?

I’m Ezra Ferguson, an author and once long ago: co-creator of the machinima “Return”.

What’s different about these books?

Return to Aramon is epic heroic fantasy that digs deep into heavier themes of family, sacrifice, fear, loss, loyalty, and faith. It’s also an unusual combination of reverence for the archaic with a strong voice from my own generation.

This isn’t machinima?

It is not. I love creating motion pictures, machinima included, but the story of Voldigar and The Brotherhood is currently being told as a trilogy of novels.

Where does this story come from?

This story has its roots all the way back in my experiences with tabletop and online roleplaying from the 1990s. It’s been rolling around in my head in one form or another for about 25 years and my friends adventured mightily with me, shoe-horning it into a number of different online worlds. Most prominently, Terran Gregory and I told a version of this story in our machinima “Return”.

What took you so long?

Life is beautiful and unexpected and tragic and joyful. I’m glad for the many turns and returns and certain this book would not be what it is without the passage of years.

Are you going to make another machinima?

I hope to make many things from the setting of Return to Aramon. Motion pictures, a video game, a tabletop RPG, etc. Quite a lot of work has already gone into these and heavily influenced the novels.

How closely does this follow the story of “Return” the machinima?

Just enough to be familiar. Some of the same themes, hooks, names, and concepts exist, but this is a stand-alone story in a stand-alone world.

Is Terran Gregory working on this story?

No, I am writing these novels independently. I can’t wait for Terran to read them!

Where can I buy Return to Aramon books?

After launch, I plan to make these books available in paperback, hardback, e-book, and audio-book at major online retailers.

You mentioned “faith” in your book synopsis. Is this religious fiction?

While I am a committed Christian and a congruent monotheistic religion features prominently amongst the central characters, the book is not allegorical and takes place in a fictional world. That said, I hope this book stirs spiritual thoughts and I’m mindful that God is my first reader.

In the words of our beloved Professor Tolkien:

“Fantasy remains a human right: we make in our measure and in our derivative mode, because we are made: and not only made, but made in the image and likeness of a Maker.”

“Man, Sub-creator, the refracted light
through whom is splintered from a single White
to many hues, and endlessly combined”

Where did you get the art for this website?

The art on this site is a collection of stock art, public domain, and things I made myself. I’m excited to be developing original art for Return to Aramon with three very talented individuals and looking for more!
